Guide for Milk Cream Electric Centrifugal Separator 80 L/H Motor SichCentrifugal milk separator “Motor Sich CЦМ-80”, hereinafter referred to as a “separator”, with electric drive of a productivity not less than 80 l/h is designed for separating unskimmed milk for cream and skimmed milk with its simultaneous decontamination.

 

In the process of manufacturing the separators, we constantly strive to improve the design. Hence the design of certain parts and assembly units may differ from the passport data. Such differences improve the quality and maintenance of a separator.

3    DESIGN AND FUNCTION


3.1    A separator, see picture 1, consists of a case (3) with an electric motor (6), a drum (2), a skim milk receiver (21), a cream receiver (11), a float (5), a float chamber (4), a milk receiver (1), a stopper (10).
3.2    On the case (3) there are: a switch (16), armoured cord.
3.3    An electric motor (6) is fastened to the case (3) on three pins with nuts (18). For the purpose of attenuating the jerk when a motor starts and with an aim to prevent a drum (2) coming off a tapered shank of the driving shaft, there are dampers — bushings (15) — installed into the electric motor flange.

3.4    Main working element – a drum, see picture 2. In the drum, under the influence of centrifugal forces, the milk is separated to cream and skim milk. A drum consists of a disk holder (1) with a set of aluminum disks (3), a separating disk (4) with an adjusting screw (7), a cap (2), a sealing ring (5), a nut (6).

3.5    Input-output device, hereinafter referred to as “dish”, is used to feed the prewarmed milk into the drum and to output cream and skim milk from the drum.
    Dish, see picture 1, consists of a milk receiver with a stopper, a float chamber, a float, receivers for cream and skim milk.


4    SAFETY MEASURES


ATTENTION! PRIOR TO PUTTING A SEPARATOR INTO OPERATION, STUDY THE PASSPORT TEXT CAREFULLY.


4.1    Do not run a separator continuously for more than an hour without a subsequent stop for 20…30 min for cooling down.
4.2    If any unwanted noise or elevated vibration appears in a separator, the operation should be stopped and the malfunction should be remedied.
Remark — Slight trembling of a separator dish is allowed when operating without milk in the milk receiver bowl, i.e. in the end of separation.
4.3    Do not run a separator with a loose nut of a drum (6), see picture 2.
4.4    Do not disassemble a separator until a drum has completely stopped.
4.5    Do not run a separator with defective electric wiring.
4.6    Prior to cleaning a separator, switch it off and unplug the cord plug from the socket. Unplugging the plug, do not pull it by the cord.
 

4.7    Do not open the milk feed stopper until the drum gains full rotary speed (in 30…40 s after turn-on).
4.8    Do not switch off a separator electric drive if the cock plug is open and the milk keeps pouring into the rotating drum.
4.9    Do not run a separator if the mains voltage drops below 190 V. In case of voltage drop below the tolerable level, it is recommended to turn on a separator via a household constant voltage regulator.


5 PRE-STARTING PROCEDURES


5.1 The room, where a separator will be installed, should be non-dusty and dry, with humidity of (65±15)%.
5.2 The platform for installation should be horizontal and flat. It is recommended to fasten a separator with three screws with washers through the apertures in support (9), see picture 1.
5.3 If a separator was stored for a long time at subzero temperature, it should be kept in warm dry room for at least six hours prior to turning it on.


6 HOOK UP


6.1 Perform the following assembling order prior to turn-on: fit an assembled drum onto the tapered part of the shaft, slightly pressing it at the top with your hand, see picture 1.
6.2 Install a skim milk receiver (21), a cream receiver (11). Pay attention to the correctness of their fitting onto the case and between each other.
Remark — If your separator has a plastic case, when installing a skim milk receiver (21) align the notch on it with a bulge inside the case.
6.3 Turn manually the drum nut and make sure that it does not touch the case and the receivers of skim milk and cream.
6.4 Set the spouts of the receivers of skim milk and cream to a comfortable position, place a reservoir, a bigger one for skim milk and a smaller one for cream.
6.5 Install a float chamber, put a float into the cavity, install a milk receiver, put a plastic stopper into the case tapered aperture at the bottom of the milk receiver.
Remark — When installing a plastic float chamber, be sure to align a notch on it with a groove on the cream receiver.


ATTENTION! A STOPPER IN A MILK RECEIVER SHOULD BE IN "CLOSED" POSITION, I.E. THE NIBBED PART OF THE STOPPER KNOB SHOULD BE TURNED TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE FROM THE NOTCH ON THE MILK RECEIVER EDGE. A SEPARATOR SHOULD BE TURNED ON ONLY WITH A KEY SWITCH.

6.6 Prior to hooking up a separator, set the key switch to “0” position, i.e. switched off. Afterwards plug the cord into a socket.

ATTENTION! DO NOT USE SEPARATORS WITHOUT AN OVERLOAD AND SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION DEVICE AT FARMING ENTERPRISES.
 


7 MILK SEPARATION




7.1 Pour strained unskimmed milk into a milk receiver bowl. Milk separates best if taken straight after milking or if prewarmed to 35…40 °C.
7.2 Using a switch, turn on a separator electric drive. After the drum gains full rotary speed, in 30…40 s after turn-on open the cock, i.e. turn the stopper knob (with its nibbed part) to the notch side on the milk receiver edge.
7.3 After separation, pour about three litres of warm water into the milk bowl and run this water through an operating separator in order to remove the remains of skim milk and cream.
7.4 A separator may work uninterrupted for not more than an hour, whereafter it should be turned off for 20…30 min for cooling down.


ATTENTION! A DRUM SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ELECTRIC DRIVE WITH CARE, APPLYING FORCE UPWARDS. DO NOT SHAKE THE DRUM LOOSE ON THE SHAFT, AS IT MAY LEAD TO DEFORMATION AND BEND OF THE SHAFT OR ITS CONE.

Remark — When testing the workability of an electric drive in a shop (without filling a separator with milk), a slight trembling of a dish installed on the case is allowed.
7.5 In order to stop a separator turn a stopper to the left or to the right from the notch on a milk receiver edge, wait for the cream and skim milk stop output and only afterwards turn an electric drive off with a switch.


8 ORDER OF DISASSEMBLING A DRUM FOR WASHING


8.1 Unscrew nut (6), see picture 2, with a specific wrench from the set of accessories, see picture 3a).
DO NOT CONTINUE THE DRUM DISASSEMBLING IF AN ADJUSTING SCREW (7) IS PROTRUDED, SEE PICTURE 2, (SCREW IT IN IF NECESSARY). IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO COMPLETELY SCREW OUT THE ADJUSTING SCREW.

8.2 In order to remove cap (2), see picture 2, turn over a drum and hit the threaded part butt end at a wooden plank in the arrow's direction, see picture 3b).
DO NOT HIT THE THREADED BUTT END OF A DRUM AT A HARD STAND.
8.3 Remove separating disk (4), see picture 2.
8.4 Remove disks A and B (3) in turn, see pictures 2a), 2b) (all in all there should be 10 to 12 disks).
8.5 Remove sealing ring (5) from disk holder (1), see picture 2.
ATTENTION! DISASSEMBLE AND WASH ALL THE DRUM’S PARTS AFTER EACH TWO FILLINGS AND SEPARATIONS (APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 25 L).

 


9 ORDER OF ASSEMBLING A DRUM


A drum is assembled in a reversed order of its disassembling.
9.1 Put a sealing ring (5) in a disk holder (1) groove, see picture 2.
9.2 Slightly turning the disks on a disk holder (1) trihedron, install two types of disks A and B (3) in turn. The assembling procedure may be started from either A or B type disk, installing them in turn.
There should be a complete set of disks (all in all 10 to 12 pcs).
9.3 Install a separating disk (4) onto the pack of disks, see picture 2.
9.4 Install a cap (2) onto a separating disk (4), see picture 2, so that the bulge in the separating disk enters the cap notch.
9.5 Align mark “0”, see picture 2, on the cap with a mark on the upper part of a disk holder.
9.6 Screw nut (6) on the protruded part of a disk holder (1). Tighten it finally with a specific wrench, inserting two its cones into two orifices of the nut. Tighten the nut till mark “0” aligns with a mark (notch groove) on the disk holder threaded part.
It is recommended to oil the nut with any edible fat.
ATTENTION! DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE NUT AND DO NOT FORGET TO TIGHTEN IT, OTHERWISE A DRUM WILL BECOME DEPRESSURIZED ON OPERATIONAL ROTATIONS.

 


10 ADJUSTMENT OF CREAM FATNESS



10.1 At your own discretion adjust the cream fatness with a female screw located in the upper part of a separating disk. When adjusting, use the square stud of the specific key, see picture 4.
10.2 If you need rich cream, turn the screw clockwise; for thin cream turn the screw counterclockwise.
One turn in any direction is usually sufficient for the desired adjustment.
ATTENTION! TURN THE SCREW WITH CARE, IN ORDER NOT TO DAMAGE THE THREAD IN THE SEPARATING DISK. A SCREW’S STOP AGAINST THE THREADED SURFACE OF A DRUM DISK HOLDER IS NOT ALLOWED.

11 MAINTENANCE OF DRUM PARTS



11.1 Drum parts should be washed with warm water. Milk and the remains of dirt are removed with a broom, and all the channels are cleaned with a brush, especially the square opening of the adjusting screw and three skew apertures of a disk holder.
11.2 A drum should be washed after each separation. Do not use acids and alkali when cleaning, as aluminum parts will get covered with stains and may deteriorate.
11.3 Other parts of a separator should be treated the same way as the drum parts. After washing the parts should be rubbed dry with a clean dish towel.
11.4 Pay special attention to the absence of fatty film on the drive cone and on the tapered aperture of a disk holder, as non-compliance with these requirements may lead to the wear of the disk holder and the drive cone.

14 LIST OF POSSIBLE MALFUNCTIONS, THE REASONS OF THEIR OCCURRENCE AND THEIR REMEDIES

2 Disassemble the drum and then re-assemble it aligning marks “0” on a cap (2) see picture 2, and on a disk holder (1).


3 Loose nut (6), see picture 2, for one turn and then tighten it till the marks align.

4 Tighten nut (6), see picture 2, and align the marks.
5 Replace the electric motor in a warranty workshop.

6 Check if the platform for separator installation is horizontal.
 
 3 Trembling of separator dish during its operation  1 The dish was not installed correctly when preparing the separator for operation.

2 No milk in milk receiver.
 
 1 When assembling a separator, the dish elements (float chamber, receivers of skim milk and cream, milk receiver) should be installed against the stop.
2 Trembling should vanish after milk is filled in the milk receiver and the separator is turned on.
 
 4 Thin or rich cream  1 Drum screw (7), see picture 2, is not properly adjusted.
2 The output aperture of an adjusting screw (7) in a separating disk is contaminated.

15 MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY



15.1 The manufacturer guarantees normal operation of a separator within 12 months from the date of sale or (if not applicable) from the date of production.
Shelf life in packed condition — 2 years.
15.2 If any malfunctions in a separator operation due to the manufacturer's fault will be found within the warranty period, an owner has the right to have the separator repaired for free in a warranty workshop (see the list of workshops in appendix A) if he/she has the duly filled in warranty cards, see appendix B, or the right to replace it in a shop or trading organization where it was purchased.
Remark — All the repair-maintenance works, such as the replacement of electric motor brushes, its disassembling and assembling, replacement of a cord are performed by specialists in a household utilities repair workshop.
15.3 The manufacturer guarantees safe work of a separator within all the period of its use, provided that the user observes the requirements set out in sections 4 and 5.
15.4 For warranty repair the consumer should present the whole set of a separator.
15.5 The manufacturer does not bear any responsibility and does not guarantee normal operation of a separator in the following cases:
a) if the rules of a separator use and maintenance are not observed;
b) if a consumer or a trading organization treats, stores or transports the separator carelessly;
c) if the malfunctions occurred not due to the manufacturer’s fault;
d) if the separator was subject to unauthorized repair or modification by a consumer, if the seal is broken.
